The leading quick-serve smoothie brand plans to open five stores in Central Iowa.
Smoothie King, a quick-serve smoothie shop with more than 650 locations worldwide, plans to open five stores in central Iowa, including a shop in Ames. There are currently no Smoothie King locations in Iowa, but franchisee Jackie Floyd of Columbia, Missouri is introducing the brand to the state.
“The number of people who are eating out is increasing, and they are looking for healthier choices,” Floyd said.
Floyd is also working with local business partner Jack Whitver from Ankeny to open the Iowa locations.
Christine Elam, Smoothie King's franchise development manager, said the brand has been expanding into more northern states. That's what makes Iowa an ideal market for Smoothie King.
“It’s a very affordable product,” Elam said. “It’s a portable meal in a cup. Everything on the menu is there for a purpose.”
